And then the rain came .....

The heatwave has come to an abrupt end ( at least for the time being, if the weatherman is to be believed) with rain and a substantial overnight drop in temperatures.
We all breathed a sigh of relief - the garden included.

This has been a good year for the Rosette apple tree on our allotment. We have picked lots of crisp, sweet little fruit. Not blemish free, it has to be said, but delicious nonetheless.

They are not apples that will keep for very long, so I made an apple tart with some of them; sweet pastry case, thick apple puree flavoured with a little lemon zest, slices of apple arranged on top and a honey glaze to finish.
Peering through the oven door, I realised too late, that I should probably have brushed the apple slices with lemon juice to prevent the mottled brown look ....
still, it tasted nice!

Tiny Girlie is staying with us tonight, whilst mummy and daddy have a night away to celebrate their wedding anniversary.
She is 3 and a half, but this is only the second night away from mummy. Last time, I ended up squashed in a tiny bed with her in an effort to get her to sleep. I'm hoping for a better night this time!

    1. Thank you. Little F was adamant she didn't want to sleep alone but with Nana - so this time we opted for the big double bed in the spare room!
