autumn randomness

Autumn: a period of transition.
Over the past couple of weeks we have had cold weather when winter seemed very near and thicker tops and socks were pulled out from the back of the wardrobe, only to be followed by t shirts and sandals, when
last week it seemed like summer had returned. On Thursday, Mr digandweed and I spent a wonderful day on the Norfolk coast with blue skies and warm sun.

But despite some warm sunshine, there is no denying that autumn is here.
Misty mornings and cooler evenings, mean comforting puds and soups are what is needed.
Nothing is more comforting than a crumble and one which has the addition of some chopped walnuts and pecans is especially delicious....

made using apples and some of the raspberries from the allotment.

And a warming soup, using more of our allotment courgettes with the addition of parmesan and ricotta.
(another recipe from an old Waitrose Kitchen magazine)

How are you celebrating the turning of the seasons?

  1. A bit like you, with comforting food. Although strangely a rather warm weekend just to confuse us. Your crumble looks delicious, I love the idea of adding pecan nuts I will be giving that a go.

  2. The weather's been all over the place since the spring really, hasn't it? Your beach photo is fabulous - just the place for a long walk before a bowl of soup, followed by a good helping of crumble!

  5. I love autumn and always welcome it with open arms. The menus here are just beginning to change, with soups, dumplings and savoury pies appearing on the table. Spice scented candles are also being lit, another sign of the changing season.

  6. Hi Ann,

I wanted to thank you for your kind comment on my blog! The Norfolk beach looks beautiful. A bit like the ones we have in Holland. Your crumble looks delicious and so does your soup! I celebrate the turning of the season by spending more time in the kitchen cooking and baking and decorating the house with candles and flowers.

    Happy weekend!
